While I have nothing against most Disney princesses, my daughter has never really taken to them. The closest I got to her liking a Disney animated movie was Aladdin and pretty much that was for the male lead (sorry Jasmine).
On the other hand she loves Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, from Totoro to Kiki to Ponyo. Until recently I haven’t let her watch the PG rated ones, because I felt she wasn’t old enough. Last year I let her watch Spirited Away, which she found too scary and then a couple months ago we watched NausicaA of the Valley of the Wind together. She loved it and today after her umpteenth viewing of the movie she sat down and drew an Ohmu and then another baby one. Here she is with her brother holding up her creations.
Chihiro: Can we meet again?
Haku: I’m sure.
Chihiro: Promise?
